Francisca Branco Veiga é Doutorada em História Contemporânea pela Faculdade de Letras da Universidade de Lisboa, com a tese A Restauração da Companhia de Jesus em Portugal, 1828–1834: O breve regresso no reinado de D. Miguel. É também Mestre em Património Cultural de Matriz Cristã pela Universidade Católica Portuguesa, onde se especializou em Museologia, tendo apresentado a dissertação Noviciado da Cotovia – O passado dos Museus da Politécnica, 1619–1759.
Em 2020, foi distinguida com uma Menção Honrosa no Prémio Internacional de Investigação “Pina Manique – Do Iluminismo à Revolução Liberal”, pela qualidade e relevância do seu trabalho doutoral.
É autora das obras Companhia de Jesus: O breve regresso no reinado de D. Miguel (2023) e Noviciado da Cotovia, 1619–1759 (2025), bem como coautora, com José Manuel Subtil, do volume Nossa Senhora da Rocha e a Companhia de Jesus: Política, Devoção e Tradição (1822–1834).
Áreas de Investigação
A minha investigação centra-se na história da Companhia de Jesus em Portugal, particularmente nas suas dimensões política, religiosa e cultural. As minhas principais áreas de interesse abrangem igualmente a História Moderna, a História Contemporânea de Portugal e a história política e religiosa portuguesa dos séculos XVIII e XIX.
O meu trabalho incide, em particular, sobre as relações entre religião, política e sociedade, a história do catolicismo e das instituições religiosas, bem como a presença, a supressão, a restauração e o legado histórico da Companhia de Jesus em Portugal.

ABSTRACT
Francisca Branco Veiga holds a PhD in Contemporary History from the Faculty of Arts, University of Lisbon, with the dissertation The Restoration of the Society of Jesus in Portugal, 1828–1834: The brief return during the reign of D. Miguel. She also earned a Master’s degree in Christian Heritage from the Portuguese Catholic University, specializing in Museology, where she completed the dissertation Noviciado da Cotovia – The past of the Polytechnic Museums, 1619–1759.
In 2020, she received an Honorable Mention in the International Research Award “Pina Manique – From the Enlightenment to the Liberal Revolution”, in recognition of the excellence of her doctoral work.
She is the author of Companhia de Jesus: O breve regresso no reinado de D. Miguel (2023) and Noviciado da Cotovia, 1619–1759 (2025), as well as co-author, with José Manuel Subtil, of Nossa Senhora da Rocha e a Companhia de Jesus: Política, Devoção e Tradição (1822–1834).
Research Areas
My research focuses on the history of the Society of Jesus in Portugal, particularly its political, religious and cultural dimensions. My broader research interests include Early Modern History, Modern and Contemporary Portuguese History, and the political and religious history of Portugal during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.
My work is especially concerned with the relationships between religion, politics and society, the history of Catholicism and religious institutions, and the presence, suppression, restoration and historical legacy of the Society of Jesus in Portugal.
